At Kalia Lab, we use surgical upper eyelid correction (blepharoplasty) to precisely address drooping eyelids and hooded eyes. These develop when the elastic fibres of the lid skin weaken over time and the underlying fatty tissue begins to bulge forward – the gaze appears heavy and tired, and in some cases the field of vision may also be affected.
During the procedure, excess skin is removed with micro-surgical precision, the underlying muscle is tightened with fine sutures, and small fatty deposits are reduced where needed. The incision runs along the natural eyelid crease, so once healing is complete, the resulting scar is barely visible.
Our physicians work with the highest level of precision and the most advanced surgical techniques. The goal: a natural, harmonious result and a wide-awake, open gaze.
By removing excess skin, the eyes appear more open, refreshed, and youthful.
With precise incision placement along the eyelid crease, the result is subtle, beautiful, and lasting.
The entire eye area looks more open, giving the face greater expressiveness and vitality.
Surgical upper eyelid correction – medically known as blepharoplasty – is an aesthetic surgical procedure in which excess skin and, if necessary, small fatty deposits on the upper lid are removed. Over the years, the lid skin and the underlying muscle lose their elasticity, and the fatty tissue of the eye socket can begin to bulge forward. The result: heavy lids, a tired-looking gaze, and sometimes even a restricted field of vision. During upper eyelid surgery, this excess skin is gently removed via a fine incision in the natural eyelid crease, leaving a scar that is barely visible once healing is complete.
An upper eyelid correction is appropriate when the skin on the upper lid is visibly lax, the lid appears heavy, or in advanced cases even restricts the field of vision. A persistently tired expression despite adequate sleep is also a common reason for consultation. The decision is always individual – we'll determine together in a detailed medical consultation whether surgery is the right medical and aesthetic solution for you.
The price includes all services related to the procedure – including the surgery itself, aftercare, support, and all required follow-up appointments.
Every surgical treatment at Kalia Lab is preceded by a thorough medical consultation – it is a prerequisite for booking the surgery. Your treating physician will take time for a detailed medical history, a medical examination, and photographic documentation of your baseline. Afterwards, we discuss the procedure, potential risks, and realistic expected outcomes. You'll have plenty of time and space to ask all your questions.
In the seven days before your appointment, you should avoid blood-thinning, pain-relieving, or fever-reducing medications such as Aspirin, ASA, or Ibuprofen. Please note: Never independently discontinue or adjust prescription medications – this should only be done in consultation with your treating physician. Please also refrain from nicotine and alcohol for 7 days prior to the procedure.
On the day of your procedure, you'll be warmly welcomed at our Berlin clinic. Our surgical team will go through every step with you once more, answer any remaining questions, and carry out a final check-up. We then take time to prepare everything carefully so you feel at ease and can go into the procedure relaxed and confident.
Please arrive sober – no solid food for 6 hours prior to the procedure; still water is permitted. Do not wear contact lenses or make-up.
Important: please arrange a lift in advance – after the procedure you may not drive a car.
At our Berlin location, upper eyelid corrections are performed by experienced specialist physicians with many years of expertise in aesthetic and surgical eyelid surgery. You will already meet your treating physician at the consultation.
The procedure itself typically takes 40 to 60 minutes. Preparation, consultation, and a brief observation period after the surgery add additional time.
Before the procedure, your physician precisely marks the planned excess skin directly on the lid – this is an important foundation for a precise, symmetrical result. The incision runs along the natural eyelid crease of the upper lid, so the resulting scar disappears within this natural line. Excess skin is gently removed and, if necessary, small fatty deposits are reduced or the underlying muscle is tightened with fine sutures. The wound is then closed with fine surgical suture material.
During the procedure, local anaesthesia ensures you will feel no pain. Upon request, analgo-sedation – a light twilight sleep – is also available. Once the anaesthetic wears off after the procedure, mild discomfort, a feeling of pressure, or tightness may occur – this is completely normal.
The upper eyelid correction is performed on an outpatient basis – you can leave the clinic the same day. However, you must not actively participate in road traffic for the first 24 hours after the procedure, so please arrange a lift in advance.
Cool the eye area regularly for the first 48 hours, sleep with your upper body slightly elevated, and avoid pressure, rubbing, or pulling on the lid. For the first few weeks, please refrain from sports, saunas, swimming pools, contact lenses, and eye make-up. Sutures are removed after approximately 5–7 days, and you will generally be socially presentable again after 7–10 days. The final result becomes visible after approximately 6–8 weeks.
Sutures are removed 7 days after the procedure at our clinic. We will schedule this appointment with you on the day of your surgery.
As with any surgical procedure, upper eyelid correction carries possible risks. These include swelling, bruising, post-operative bleeding, temporary irritation, and in rare cases infection, wound healing complications, or slight scar visibility.
We transparently discuss all individual risks during your personal consultation and take the time to address all of your questions.
The goal of every upper eyelid correction at Kalia Lab is a natural, harmonious result – a wide-awake, open gaze, without looking like a different person. You'll see initial changes as soon as the swelling begins to subside in the first few days. The full result becomes visible after approximately 6 to 8 weeks, once the suture has fully healed and the tissue has settled.
